Meet record crowns the elite sports spectacle before the Golden Roof!

The 15th International Golden Roof Challenge in Innsbruck (home of the Golden Fly Series), presented elite athletes in competition, with a historical twist. This year marks the commemoration of the 500th Anniversary of the death of Emperor Maximilian I, who built the Golden Roof in 1500 and enjoyed jousting in the very place the Challenge takes place. What better way to celebrate than with a modern jousting competition!

In women’s pole vault, before a massive crowd, former Junior World Champion Angelica Bengtsson (SWE) and most recently winner of the IAAF Golden League in Rome, broke the meet record with a vault of 4.61m ahead of Aksana Gataullina (ANA) (and daughter of former Russian Pole Vault Star Rodion Gataullin) who managed 4.26m.

World leading long jumper Juan Miguel Echevarria (CUB) emerged as the clear winner of the men's long jump competition. His best jump of 8.15m fell just 3cms short of the meet record (8.18m). Second place went to Feron Sayers (GBR) with 7.92m ahead of Zarck Visser (RSA) who managed 7.86m.

The men's pole vault competition went to defending champion and former world champion Konstantinos Filippidis (GRE) with 5.61 m with Great Britain’s Charlie Myers not far behind with 5.51 m and Axel Chapelle (FRA) with 5.41 m.

The women's long jump proved to be a dramatic competition until the end with the top three jumping within 3 centimetres of each other. In the end Maryna Bekh-Romanchuk (UKR) won with the top distance of 6.74m ahead of Alina Rotaru (ROM) with 6.66 m and Nastassia Mironchyk-Ivanova (BLR) with 6.65 m. From an Austrian point of view, Sarah Lagger managed 6.15 m.

The event in the old town of Innsbruck was held on "The FlySwat" - the world's largest specially designed and certified mobile athletics network. Length 72m, total weight 25 tons.
