Praca Maua - 28st Feb 2016

On 28 February, the Olympic City of Rio de Janeiro (BRA) hosted the opening competition of the Golden Fly Series 2016 in brand new location – the technical museum of Praça Maua.

The event entitled "Super Salto" was a massive success locally broadcast live by Globo TV as part of their summer-series Esporte Espetacular to 93 countries! More than 25 million viewers worldwide (more than 10 million in Brazil) watched the event in Brazil and we were able to celebrate two world leading marks in Men’s Long Jump with 8.24 m from German Paralympic World Record Holder Markus Rehm and 5.50 m from Men’s Pole Vault winner German Chiaraviglio from Argentina. Additionally, as well as two Golden Fly Series Records (Markus Rehm 8,24 m Long Jump and Women’s Pole Vault by double World Champion Fabiana Murer 4,63m!)

Golden Fly Series’ new event format – the “Single Shot Mode” worked very well and gave additional pressure and adrenalin to both athletes and audience.

In the side programme, a fun run for 2.500 people was organised to encourage a healthy lifestyle through sport. Brazilian World Championship Medallist Keila Costa also visited the Favelas and instructed kids and teachers about athletics. Olympic Champion and Brazilian legend Maurren Maggi celebrated her retirement and her farewell Jump during the Event!
